So now that we realize how Goober has not yet strayed from his feral kitten instincts we have read a couple articles to help us and Goober better mend our relationship as a family.
The first thing I understood to be of importance is having schedule and keeping to it. Apparently schedule = trust between human and animal and we want nothing more than for Goobs to trust us. That being said, my alarm to play with Cali at 5:30 has just rang and i must show her the affection she yearns for. Will be back after scheduled activities have been completed!
Totally awesome that as my alarm rings Cali hears it from the second bedroom and is out and behind the couch as I round the corner to go play with her, it was meant to be, us playing! Now in a couple minutes the alarm will sound for me to play with Goober and I hope that he is ready, if not I will just give him encouragement by laying near him so he can become accustom to me.
It is hard to have one kitten be so open and loving and to curl up and sleep on your shoulder the first night, to having one who hides and is afraid of human contact. We can’t wait for more progress to continue with Goober as it has already.
And sound the alarm. Goober here I come!
So Goober did not want to play. I tried for two full minutes before just relaxing myself and laying there with him. Eyes closed, breathing as steadily as I could to make him feel calm and secure. He didn’t approach me so I can’t say he felt secure but he was able to close his eyes and relax a little. TO me that says he did not feel threatened and that is always a great sign and feeling.
The next step on our schedule is feeding them dinner. Unfortunately Goober hasn’t touched his food all day so wedding may present a problem but I think with Cali around he may feel okay about eating, especially since I will leave the house for a short duration to get my daily walk in. Hopefully I can hit 2 miles today! If I go to Ralph’s it’s an easy 2.4 miles round trip but should I choose Jack-in-the-Box it cuts it down to 1.8 miles round trip and junk food.
I think my decision has been made for me, healthy groceries and no processed artificial foods that are in the long run more expensive for lesser fill and higher calorie content, no thanks!
Wow! Again just moments before the dinner alarm rang Cali had sprung onto the chair I am sitting on stretched on my back and shoulder to get my attention, climbed on to my lap and gave a couple soft meows letting me know she was hungry and sure enough, do do do dos chimed on my phone and we got up together to get dinner ready for her and her brother. I think this schedule is delightfully perfect.
With them content I feel good about heading out for my walk. I hope Goober feels better and eats his food. I had to army crawl under the futon to deliver it to him – the water I just placed on the edge of the futon, he can crawl to it I decided!
